A message from those who lead the Foundation

Manuela García Chaparro, Chair of the Zoo Koki Foundation

Manuela García Chaparro

Chair

Welcome to the Zoo Koki Foundation! It is a great pleasure for me to chair the Zoo Koki Foundation, a small centre with a strong commitment to conservation and education. Our slogan makes that commitment clear: “The biggest tree was once a seed.”

Among our aims is to work with other zoos, institutions, operators, and university and scientific centres to help conserve the world's wildlife and biodiversity.

This is a wonderful challenge, and those of us who make up the Foundation will keep devoting our greatest enthusiasm and best efforts to it, so that we always bring value and usefulness.

With warmest regards.

Iñaki Hernández García, Secretary of the Foundation and Director of ZOO KOKI

The Zoo Koki Foundation is a small centre with a strong commitment to education and conservation. At the Foundation we believe that conservation and education are the future for helping many species, which is why we work every day with enthusiasm and genuine dedication.

Conservation: for the Foundation it is essential to know each of our residents in depth; that is why we build strong alliances with other zoological centres, private collections and a variety of institutions to ensure that the information we handle helps us achieve these goals. We currently take part in a number of conservation projects.

Recovery: because of human activity, and above all our encroachment on the habitats of many species, animals sometimes suffer accidents and injuries from collisions with power lines, being shot by hunters or road accidents. These animals need direct attention and care before being released; sadly, some cannot be released again and must remain in captivity under permanent care. We house a number of rescued animals who will have a second chance to live cared for, fed and protected, and some may even breed and take part in conservation projects, acting as ambassadors for their species.

Education: together with conservation, it is one of the Foundation's most important pillars. We offer a different kind of educational programme through the Zoo School, a concept in which pupils come to the zoo to see and feel up close the more than 150 animal species and 300 plant species living here, with the aim that they come to love, respect and care for the world's flora and fauna.

Social area: we have also opened a social area to support the groups most in need. Even in normal circumstances, people with disabilities face greater difficulties in accessing health, education, employment and social participation; at the Foundation we continue to take on this social challenge with enthusiasm, dedication and affection, something that would not be possible without your visit and your support. Thank you very much for your trust!

We invite you to discover this project, located in the centre of Spain, so you can appreciate the full value of what we offer. We are very proud of the small contribution we make through the Foundation and want to keep working, with your help, in the future.

“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”

🐾 See you at the zoo!

Conservation

Getting to know in depth each of the species we house, in alliance with other zoological centres and institutions, so as to take an active part in conservation projects.

Recovery

Many animals arrive injured by human activity. We give them care and, when they cannot return to the wild, a permanent home as ambassadors for their species.

Education

Through the Zoo School, pupils see and feel up close our more than 150 animal species and 300 plant species, so they learn to love, respect and care for nature.

Social area

We work with associations for people with disabilities so that they can experience nature up close, with free admission and adapted visits.
