About us

Our history

«In a village of La Mancha…» For more than 28 years we have been working for the conservation and protection of wildlife.

Founded in 1990 by three brothers from Extremadura, Zoo Koki (Zoological and Botanical Park) officially opened its doors in June 2018. The park is home to more than 150 species of birds, mammals and reptiles from four continents, as well as more than 300 plant species.

Since 2018 the centre has been run by the Zoo Koki Foundation, an organisation committed to providing a safe, healthy and stimulating environment for its animals, as well as offering educational opportunities to visitors. The Foundation also carries out research projects and promotes public awareness of environmental conservation.

Zoo Koki was born out of enthusiasm and passion for fauna and flora, in full awareness of the four pillars of a modern zoo: education, recreation, conservation and research. Because the greatness of a zoo is not measured only by the land it occupies.

The zoo

We are one of the few zoos in Spain born from private initiative. In recent years we have increased our contacts with other zoos and conservation institutions, which has strengthened our participation in Spanish and international captive-breeding projects (EEP, ESB and MONP programmes).

We are a friendly, family-run zoo where you can chat with us, learn and share, away from noise and pollution. Our signage includes QR codes that work as an audio guide for all visitors.

The Foundation

The Zoo Koki Foundation is a private non-profit organisation created to manage research, education and conservation projects, in collaboration with zoos, associations, communities and organisations that help protect species and ecosystems.

«The biggest tree was once a seed» — Social programme «El alma del zoo» (“the soul of the zoo”): we are proud to do our bit to help the people who need it most.

Mission

Mission: to help conserve wild fauna and flora, complementing our work with other zoos, institutions and university and scientific centres.

Vision: «A better world, in which human beings live in harmony with nature».
